Noticeable results, no surgery, and no recovery time – discover the benefits of BOTOX®® at our practice.
There are many different reasons that patients choose to receive BOTOX® treatment, from wanting to remove fine lines and wrinkles to treating more severe conditions such as TMJ and chronic migraines. BOTOX® can relieve any of the symptoms that make you feel less confident, and help you achieve a more youthful, radiant appearance.
What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® is a medication that can only be prescribed to you by a healthcare professional. It is used as a temporary treatment for patients between the ages of 18 and 65. BOTOX® treatments are quick and comfortable, and within hours you will begin to notice a difference in the way your skin looks and feels.
How does BOTOX® work?
BOTOX® uses a purified protein that relaxes the muscles that causes wrinkles such as forehead worry lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. BOTOX® helps to relax the muscles beneath the skin, so that fine lines and wrinkles become less visible.
Depending on each individual case, the results can last between three to four months. Treatment is temporary, and once the BOTOX® begins to wear off, the skin will return to the way it looked before treatment.
BOTOX® is also used to relieve symptoms of clenching and grinding by relaxing the major muscle (masseter muscle) that is involved with the bruxism. BOTOX® is used to reduce the amount of force of contraction of the masseter muscle. This reduces the stress placed on the teeth and alleviates jaw discomfort.
What Kinds of Wrinkles Does BOTOX® Treat?
There are two kinds of wrinkles: static wrinkles and dynamic wrinkles.
Static wrinkles are on display always. They are usually the result of sun damage, collagen loss, personal habits such as smoking, and normal aging. BOTOX® does not work on static wrinkles because they don’t involve muscle contractions. Dermal fillers are used for static wrinkles.
Dynamic wrinkles form from a muscle contraction under the skin when we perform certain expressions or behaviors such as squinting, frowning, showing surprise, and the like. The wrinkle forms on the skin above the muscle.
Dynamic wrinkles form on the skin above as a muscle contracts when we make certain facial expressions such as frowning. Dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, the 11s (between your brows), and forehead lines are found mainly on the upper third of the face.
When BOTOX® is injected into the muscle responsible for the wrinkle, it blocks some of the nerve message to the muscle. Without the message, the muscle relaxes and doesn’t contract as much, and the result is less wrinkles.
Why Are Dentists a Great Choice for BOTOX®® Administration?
In many ways, dentists are the best providers of BOTOX®® treatment in the health care industry. They offer distinct advantages you may not find at other locations where BOTOX®® is administered, including:
- Dental practices have strict sterilization protocols, giving patients “mini hospital” conditions
- Dentists have exceptional knowledge of the head and neck anatomy
- They are extremely competent and comfortable using needles
